Greg has now wrapped a year around having an evaluation and completing retrofitting projects to his home. He has an e-Monitor installed and has monthly electric bills going back three years. His average monthly savings (after integrating DwellGreen recommendations) are in the $300 range and amount to a 42% reduction in energy costs. His average bill has gone from around $570 a month to $270 a month.

He attributes this to the e-Monitor helping him figure out where he was having his biggest problems with electric use and then doing several key projects. He put a pet door in one of his sliders and significantly reduced his AC consumption because of it. He also installed spray foam insulation in the attic. He then had a variable speed pool pump installed. Next he had his garage door strengthened for storm fortification. The pet door, foam, and pool pump along with some personal habit changes inspired by the e-Monitor account for the lower electric bill. By using closed cell foam and re-enforcing the garage door, he also took his home owners insurance premium from $4200 to $2900, a $1300 annual savings. His use of DwellGreen has created a total annual savings in energy and insurance of approximately $4900.

This gives him a projects ROI of less than 3 years.

To the DwellGreen Team:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the people at DwellGreen for their assistance over the past few months as we have worked to retrofit our “new-to-us” home.

After purchasing a 13 year old home in December, 2010, we quickly contacted DwellGreen to have an eMoniter installed.  Little did we realize what a valuable resource this organization would be to us during our renovations.

We wanted to make the most energy efficient decisions possible while updating our home.  The convenience of being able to pick up the phone and ask specific questions and receive immediate guidance saved us countless hours of headaches and research.

Matthew Franck was our contact, and he guided us through the process of making the most energy-wise appliance purchases for our home as well as suggestions regarding windows, doors, insulation, air conditioners and water heaters.  No question was ever too big, too small or too silly for Matthew not to respond to immediately with valuable assistance.

In one instance we were questioning a manufacturer about a particular appliance that we had purchased as we were wondering if it was working properly.  It  became very obvious that the manufacturer would not have listened to our story nor made any effort to resolve the situation, UNTIL  they learned about our participation in the DwellGreen program.  When we explained this program and the information that we had at our fingertips due to our eMoniter,  GE was quick to resolve the matter.  Without DwellGreen, and Matthew Franck, we are convinced that this situation would not have had a happy ending.

It has been exciting for us to have had the opportunity to participate in this program.  I wonder if locals realize that this is the largest program of this type in the country.   We feel very fortunate to be in a community that made this program available in Sarasota and we appreciate those that made it a reality.

Matt,

The new water heater is installed. Chris, from N&M was just great! I am so pleased.

The water heater actually shut off before he left today. I am so excited to have this done, and I
just want to tell you that I really appreciate the fact that you brought this to our attention. I
would have never known that the other system was faulty if you hadn’t told me to have it
checked out. Another week or two and Sears would not have taken it back, and we would have
been stuck trying to work through it w/Sears. It is obvious that they don’t know a thing about the
hybrids.

A big, big “Thank You” to you!

I will be anxious to see how it does energy wise…. Keep me posted.
