The overall goal of heating and air conditioning is to create a comfortable combination of temperature, air flow and humidity. Doing this requires over forty percent of a typical American home’s energy. In Florida, cooling consumes a greater proportion of the total home energy budget than the national average: 20% in North Florida, 30% in Central Florida and 40% in South Florida.

The reduction of heating and cooling energy requires four interlinked strategies: design with climate, conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy.
