Get The Future You Want – By Design

There are two ways to go in home improvement. The usual way is to solve problems as they come up. The other, Dwellgreen way is to design an overall action plan for energy, water, fortification, and quality of life goals.

Planning is essential to get the most for your home improvement dollar. A few simple examples illustrate this point.

Suppose your roof leaks. So you replace your dark singles. One problem solved. But, if you had an overall plan you could have installed a reflective roof and saved a bunch on your air conditioning bill.

You get a call from your insurance company, canceling your hurricane wind insurance, unless you install either shutters or fortified windows. So you install the beefed-up windows and celebrate your new insurance discount. But your new windows still let in too much sun, because you did not specify a sun-reflective a low-e coating.

You insulate your attic with sprayed foam between your roof rafters. You contractor puts in the cheaper open-cell foam. A month later, your friend does the same project with closed-cell foam, and gets a $1,000 per year insurance discount. His closed-cell foam keeps his roof from blowing away. You get blown away by the money you could have saved!

These examples of lost opportunities could go on and on. This is why each Dwellgreen home evaluation includes a sequenced action list of improvements designed for their combined effect on energy, water, fortification and quality of life, return on investment.

Suppose your water bills for outdoor irrigation are getting high and your yard is looking ratty. This is the time pull out your Dwellgreen sequenced action list for water which recommends a combination of mulch, native plants, drip irrigation, and a cistern. By installing these, you upgrade your curb appeal, lower you irrigation bill and storm water assessment, and better the fishing in your local watershed. To quote Dwellgreens founder John Lambie: “Your yard is either producing snook and redfish or making them sick.”
